P2R iOS App

P2R will help you memorize large amounts of text over a period of time. Originally designed to help people memorize the Bible using the Partnering to Remember method from Timmy Brister, P2R can be used for any text. The app comes preloaded with several Scripture books and memory verses. It is also possible to download additional text collections or set up and load your own!

P2R is a universal app that should work on any iOS device running iOS 4.2 or later.

The P2R app is the creation of Chris Roberts, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Panama City, FL and sometimes blogger of Seek the Holy. This app is a labor of love for the Word of God and comes with a desire that it would help people grow in their knowledge and love of God and obedience to his commands.

Hello,

This looks great! I would love to see an ability to have an accountability partner (to send the review log to), and an ability to select the review frequency of each verse. For example: review daily for 30 days, review weekly for 10 weeks, review monthly for 12 months, review quarterly thereafter.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

I’ve copied a previously submitted thread in case you didn’t receive it before:

I’m having trouble with certain collections updating to my phone. I’ve looked through your formatting recommendation in order to add the Sermon on the Mount to my collection. I have iOS 5.0.1 and I’ve followed the steps to add a collection to iTunes to then link it to the phone, but no luck in adding the collection from iTunes through the P2R app. The xml file shows itself when looking at the device through iTunes, but it doesn’t appear when looking at P2R directly. When attempting it from the P2R app under the add collection button (iTunes), it states:
“No Collections Found”
“No collections found in iTunes Documents Folder.”
I can submit to you (a small portion) of how I’ve formatted the xml file.
Also, when adding collections from the online list, it shows me that I have already loaded the Declaration of Independence, but it wont show the item in the active collection.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Scott,

Sorry I haven’t responded to you yet, I remember seeing your message before but it got caught in a busy shuffle.

If you don’t mind, please email me the xml and I can see if I can figure out why it isn’t showing up. It should list the file even if it has trouble reading it, so I’m surprised it’s not giving you anything.

On a semi related note, I do plan to release a collection for the Sermon on the Mount soon.

As for the Declaration of Independence, that’s strange. Can you try removing it and re-adding it?

Hey Chris, located below is a sample of the stuff I’ve worked on for the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. For clarification, when looking at iTunes via my computer, I can see the xml file in the other documents window, but when I link the phone up to the computer and start adding a collection via the iTunes option, it doesn’t find any such documents. I’ve thought about removing P2R and then adding it again to see if that would correct matters.

As for the Declaration of Independence, it shows up on the add collection (via the online button) as “Collection with this name already loaded”, but it doesn’t actually appear anywhere else in any other collection menu. Weird.

Anyway, I appreciate any help you can offer, and if need be, I will just wait for your update to the Matthew chapters.

Scott

Chris,

Awesome App! Thank you. The personal collections and the hide all, set this App apart. I just connected my iPhone and followed your instructions, voila! I’m off and memorizing. Blessings to you for this service. James C

For the problem with the text collections, two questions:
1. Are you saving as plain text?
2. Do your files end in a .xml extension? This is something I didn’t make clear on the text collection page. I’ll amend it accordingly.

P2R should detect any file with an xml extension, and will ignore others.

Hi Chris,

The file in question is saved as an .xml file. I’m unable to attach it and was unable to see it the last time I tried pasting it into the comments box. Hopefully, you’re able to see the contents. Please let me know if there is anything else you need.

Also, your comment reminded me that I needed to finish formatting the Sermon on the Mount. A version is now available from the online list.

Chris,

For a couple years now I have been looking for an iPhone app that will do the same thing that Laridian’s Memorize! app will do – allow you to test yourself by entering the first letter of each word in the verse. If you choose the right letter, the word is revealed. If you don’t, nothing happens.

I still carry an old Smartphone with me for the sole purpose of using that program to help me memorize books of the Bible. I have found it to be by far the best way to really test yourself on a long passage of Scripture. I’ve asked Laridian if they are planning to do an app like that for the iPhone, and they say it is “in the works”.

Your app is the closest I have seen yet to being able to do that. If you remove all the words, you can tap along, but you don’t get the “feedback” if you are wrong, because the word appears regardless of whether or not you choose the right word.

I’ve emailed about 10-12 different app developers who have Bible memory apps, and nobody has ever replied about how easy/difficult it would be to mimic Laridian’s “test feature” in an iPhone app. To me (I’m not a programmer, just a pastor) it seems like it should be fairly easy to do. Enter the text, and then ask for the first letter of the first word. If you key in the correct letter, the word is revealed. If you choose the wrong letter, the word is not revealed. It seems like a very easy if A=A then reveal, if A does not = A then don’t reveal, sort of a program.

All of that to say, have you ever considered using a “test feature” similar to the Laridian one from their Memorize! program found at the link below?

http://www.laridian.com/catalog/products/PCDMEMCE.asp

I would pay you $25 myself for the app, so that I can stop carrying this heavy old smartphone in my pocket!! ;)

If anything, I would be curious to know your thoughts on developing something like this. Perhaps Laridian has “trademarked” this feature…but I would assume that anyone could use a similar feature as they do. It seems like all the Bible memory apps out there have all kinds of different “test” features, but none of them have a “type the first letter of the next word” feature which is the ONLY one I am interested in.

Thanks for your efforts to help people memorize large portions of the Bible! And thanks for taking the time to read this long comment. And thanks in advance for taking the time to reply!

Kindest Regards,
Jeff

I have been putting scriptures to music for a long time but never had an effective avenue to share them with others. Mine vary from single verses to longer passages such as the armour of God (Eph.6:10-17). I write them verbatum in whichever translation I use (mostly NIV). I write the music out with the Finale program. A laptop and basic cell phone is the extent of my electronic usage so far. Any suggestions on how to make these available to others? I didn’t know if there were any copyright laws that might enter into the equation. My daughter just heard about scripture memory i-pad apps and thought it might be a way of sharing these songs with others. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Genita

Genita,

The best solution for something like that could be a website rather than an app. Since you are talking audio clips, users could download the audio from your website and include them on their devices via the various music and media playing applications that already come with most mobile devices.
