About
The ESV plugin for WordPress makes use of the excellent service offered by the folks at the ESV Website. The plugin provides an easy way to include text from the English Standard Version of the Bible into your website. To use this plugin it is helpful have an ESV web key. Information about obtaining your own key is on the ESV Web Service page.
Note for Tooltip
If you want to use the Tooltip you must also install the Tippy plugin. See the Tippy page for information on using and configuring Tippy.
How to use
Specific instructions for using the plugin can be found through your WordPress Dashboard Options on the ESV Options page once you have installed the plugin.
The simplest way to use the plugin is to have it automatically detect passages. It will format the reference based on your default settings from the ESV Options page.
The plugin has five ways to format passages: text in a tooltip, text inline, text in a blockquote, link to the text, and ignore the passage. Examples:
Tooltip
John 3:16
(Hover over the link for the tooltip. Tooltip trigger is configurable under Tippy.)
1 | [esvbible reference="John 3:16" header="on" format="tooltip"]John 3:16[/esvbible] |
Inline

Blockquote
